Ascension is the eighth book in the Fate of the Jedi series and is probably the best effort Golden has put forth. However, her writing is still uneven and overly descriptive. I haven't exactly pinned down why I don't like her style, but the fact remains she lags far behind the other writers in the Expanded Universe.
This book continues the Jedi's quest to rid the universe of Abeloth. There are some interesting parts, but Luke Skywalker is still an annoying character since he's a jerk.
I recommend this book only if you're set on finishing the series.
