Time for a new dishwasher?

I've noticed my dishwasher doesn't seem to get my dishes as clean as I'd like.  I thought I did a pretty good job pre-washing them, but there comes a point when you pre-wash so much that you obviate the need for a dishwasher.  I had read that the environmentally friendly detergents don't work as well so perhaps I should try some of the phosphate loaded ones before shelling out for a dishwasher.

Let me check Amazon to see how much one would run...Wow.  It looks like I would need $600-1100 to get a good one.  Pretty steep.
